32 Barn quilts of ritchie county

21. Merry Go Round: 2172 Smithville Road, Washburn

The Ritchie County Quilt Trail is a group of painted wooden quilt blocks displayed along roads in Ritchie County. Barn quilts have names and there is often a story about the owner of the barn or outbuilding on which the barn quilt is attached.

When you follow the Ritchie County Barn Quilt Trail, you will wind your way through our back roads with a purpose and a question: “What’s the story behind that barn quilt?” Enjoy the beauty of our hills, hollows, fields and barns.

Linda Snider and Jean Cronin are the organizers of the Ritchie County Quilt Trail. They asked Cairo Crafty Quilters to join them in celebrating the history of quilts, our ancestors and memories of olden days. They wish to thank the Ritchie County High School Art Department for painting many of these blocks. This quilt trail is self-financed by the participants.

The Cairo Crafty Quilters are a group of quilters who meet monthly and have a love of quilts and quilting. They make baby quilts to give away each year, as well as quilting for themselves. They have given quilts to nursing homes and give patriotic quilts to veterans in Ritchie County. They would like to thank all the participants and anyone else who helped along the way.
