CAIRO

Along the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail, the Cairo area offers charming shops, North Bend State Park, country dining, lodging and outdoor recreational experiences. The rail trail travels through 10 tunnels, including the haunted Silver Run Tunnel, crosses 36 bridges and passes through forests, farmland and a variety of small communities, which sprung up along the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line. The trail stretches from Happy Valley, near Parkersburg, to Wolfe Summit, 4 miles from Clarksburg, and is a part of the 6,800-mile coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail.

To honor Ritchie Countians who have served their country in times of war and in times of peach, and in honor of all who have served in the United States Military. Honor bricks represent Ritchie Countians or those who have called Ritchie County home. Bronze plaques are mounted on a 10-ton concrete panel, which is an extra panel from the dam project at Lake North Bend State Park. It was donated by the contractor who built the dam, Barnard Construction of Bozeman, Montana. The project was conducted by local volunteers and North Bend State Park.
