Ritchie County offers multiple opportunities for outdoorsmen interested in boating on our 305-acre lake or biking along the scenic 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail or North Bend State Park’s nature trails. North Bend Outfitters meets the needs of those seeking exciting boating or biking adventures around the county.
North Bend Outfitters rents boats at the Cokeley Recreation Center at the North Bend Lake and rents bicycles inside North Bend State Park. Rentals are available for fishing poles and accessories, top quality Haro mountain bikes, and Oldtown canoes, kayaks, and jon boats.
North Bend Outfitters also sells Haro and Scott USA mountain bikes, Oldtown canoes and kayaks, and accessories for all of their bikes and boats. Along with their current stock, North Bend Outfitters can special order items from their product catalogs.
Bryan and Erica Backus started the business in 2003. The pair became interested in boating after buying their first kayak in 2000 and then exploring the Hughes River. Bryan had always wanted to open a small business and the new lake provided the perfect opportunity to start renting and selling boats.

Later the business expanded to include sales and rentals of bicycles for people of all ages. Since opening, the number and quality of the items for rent and retail has greatly increased since becoming a dealer for Haro, Scott USA and Oldtown.
When boating, North Bend Outfitters suggests you bring a small cooler with water and snacks, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat. North Bend Outfitters rents dry bags for items such as cameras and cell phones.
While on the lake or the trails, keep an eye open for wildlife such as deer, beavers, ducks, geese, squirrels, muskrats, turtles, and the great blue heron.
North Bend Outfitters is open from June to August on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In May and September, North Bend Outfitters is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Helmets for bicycles and life jackets for boats are included with the rental.
